Apart from the ground stability aspects associated with mining and quarrying, or in areas known to be free of such features, a geotechnical investigation is often required. In Cornwall and Devon, this normally takes the form of machine excavated trial pits or drilling. In addition, any necessary sampling, drilling, field testing, laboratory testing and analysis can be arranged and supervised. Foundational parameters and suggested types can be given, with indicated bearing capacities and minimum founding depths.
