In certain cases, it is sometimes required that particular features indicated from archive records, or structural defects observed by inspection, are clarified as regards the presence, general extent and location of untoward ground conditions, by the simplest and least disturbing method possible. Simple hand probing using a Makintosh extension tool, combined with at least one small trial pit can often satisfy the above sufficiently for a purchase decision to be made, and these reports are normally acceptable for mortgage and insurance purposes.
